TurboDraft Training

Members from four Upshur County volunteer fire departments joined together July 18, 2023, to train on how to use a TurboDraft unit. The unit, purchased by Pleasant Grove VFD, can draft water from a static source, such as a pond or lake, for use to put out flames during an emergency response. Members and fire apparatus from Pleasant Grove, Big Sandy, Pritchett, and Betty met at the Pleasant Grove fire station for the start of the training and then drove to a local ranch to practice using the TurboDraft to draw water from a pond. The water was drafted from the pond into fire hoses, which could then be pumped into a fire engine. Fire personnel also practiced hose lays, connections, and setting up dump tanks.
